Working Man
Back to work… The moment I was anticipating, dreading, nervous about, all sorts of possible reactions. But it was great! Getting back into the classroom was like a fish being returned to the sea after too long on the deck of a trawler. Welcoming.
Last week I taught at two schools. On Thursday I was working in a nursery due to the nationwide teachers’ strike. Apparently they don’t get payed enough, which is not an uncommon complaint for teachers all over the world. So there I was in a nursery, reading and baking and dishing up food and changing crappy pants and sweeping floors and making clay blobs and singing and dealing with urine and supervising nap time and calling twins the wrong name and getting rather tired by the end of the day.
My diary is getting full, there is plenty of work for me which is great… might even manage to pay for the trip! I am getting to know the city streets well, and my confidence on a bike is getting good… compared to Collingwood, Bristol is a nightmare of highways, byways, backstreets and traffic jams. It is well set up for cyclists though, and at rush hour it is much much quicker to be on a bike than in a car. It is great fun to casually pedal past huge queues of traffic and zip down the alleys to shortcut the gazillions of cars inching along at turtlespeed.
Incredibly, there have been three consecutive days of sun in England, and tomorrow looks good too. The last time this happened was before the fall of the Roman Empire. I even managed to go outside in bare feet…(!)
I hope you are all well back home… Take care!
Jonny

That’s great Jonathan and I’m sure the nappy changing will be a good skill to have.
Anzac Day here on Friday and being a Friday meant a long weekend which was nice. We have had Nina for the weekend and have been fishing (no luck), making necklaces and ten pin bowling. All good fun.
Dad and I are going to Auckland on May 6th for 5 days to repaint the apartment and do some repairs. It hasn’t sold so we need to get a tenant back into it asap.Apparently it has been knocked around by the tenant after just two years.
Did you manage to get a room in a flat?
Take care
Love Mum

We saw Jocelyn at the airport when she was en route to Paraparaumu
